Our Story
Amigas in Action was founded by two educators working at a Title I school in Denver, CO. Through our work, we built meaningful relationships with hundreds of hardworking families and observed a growing trend: as the holiday season approached, families faced increasing stress, anxiety, and financial strain. This stress often impacted children, affecting their well-being and ability to enjoy the holidays.
In addition, many children from low-income families depend on Free and Reduced Lunch programs for consistent meals, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The holiday break creates a gap, leaving these children at risk of food insecurity. Determined to ease this financial burden and bring joy back into the holiday season, we created Amigas in Action to support families in need.
Who We Serve
Amigas in Action supports hardworking families in the Denver metro area who demonstrate financial need. Referrals come directly from school social workers in Denver Public Schools and Aurora Public Schools, as well as from caseworkers and other local agencies.
